How I work
Brief
This initial consultation allows for time with the client to discuss through any ideas and concepts, and to tease out the essence of the place. We can take the opportunity to discuss the site and the requirements of the design, balancing and assessing the merits and potential challenges of the space. From this I can provide a breakdown and explanation of how the process will work and a fee proposal.
Site Appraisal
The site survey records existing features, including buildings, trees, changes in level, soil types and climatic factors, and will form the basis of the design. Where necessary, a professional surveyor will be used in discussion with the client.
Design Concept
The concept plan will then be presented with the use of visuals and will provide a detailed outline of the design in its entirety. This includes hand drawn sketches, 3D visuals and stills, 2D plans and mood boards to convey an overall picture of the finished garden. This document will act as point of discussion, allowing the design to evolve and amendments to be worked through before preparing a layout plan.
Design Layout
A masterplan is then produced incorporating amendments and revisions from the previous stage. This will detail all key hard landscaping decisions with a breakdown of all on-site measurements, including necessary elevations and specifications, allowing the scheme to be accurately costed.
This will be produced in conjunction with detailed planting plans of the site and allow for close cooperation and involvement with the client in the planting design.
Once the scheme has been drawn up and agreed, a quotation can be prepared for the proposed project. Contractors will receive a masterplan, drawing packages and specifications of the site. I will meet prospective contractors on site (as required) and discuss respective quotes.
Managing the project in close cooperation with the contractor and the client will ensure the specification of the build is running to schedule.
